Buddy the blind dog
Buddy
was found as a skinny stray and turned in to Spokane Animal
Control. A shelter employee noticed he seemed blind and contacted
us. Buddy didn't have much time left, and as a blind dog,
his chances at adoption were slim to none.
He was still very much a pup when he arrived at the ranch a big, goofy kid with long legs. His favorite toy was a hedgehog; Buddy would carry this hedgehog around in his mouth wherever he went.
He soon settled in with the rest of the pack, romping and roughhousing with his new friends in the dog paddock.
He has two different eye diseases, neither of which is reversible. Yet Buddy can see shadows and the difference between light and dark, which helps him get around with remarkable speed.

He has two different eye diseases, neither of which is reversible. Yet Buddy can see shadows and the difference between light and dark, which helps him get around with remarkable speed. In a few months Buddy was transformed from an overgrown pup into the handsome fellow you see in the photos on this page. No longer does he carry his toy hedgehog everywhere; this might be because he realized no one else carried hedgehogs around, and he wanted to fit in like every other kid. But although Mr. Hedgehog doesn't appear during the day any longer, he remains very much a part of Buddy's life: He's safely tucked away in Buddy's crate, where this lanky youngster can still play with his favorite toy at night.
