Joey the blind dog

Joey MainJoey came to us from the Bitterroot Humane Association in Hamilton, Montana. A motorist saw this little blind Cocker floundering in a snow bank by the side of the road. The good Samaritan stopped, picked her up, and took her to the shelter.

No one came forward to claim her, and the shelter called us. When Joey first arrived, she looked like she was wearing a thick, black rug. She clearly hadn''t been groomed in a long time, if ever. A trip to the groomer gave her a new look. .. and probably helped her drop several pounds! We could tell she just felt better, not wearing that mop.

Joey also turned out to have a thyroid condition, which we are treating. Other than that, she seems to be in good health. She's also in constant motion, always exploring the yard around the house, ranging far and wide. Yet come evening time, when we're ready to put Joey up for the night, she usually finds her way back to the front door of her cottage all on her own.

Although she gets along well with other dogs, she doesn't pal around with them. She focuses her affection on humans, and her favorite "please pay attention to me" technique is to stand up on her hind feet and put her front paws on your leg.

We named her after the rock musician Joe Cocker. Thus you might say that with a little help from her friends, Joey's feeling alright.
