Lady the blind dog
Lady is an old, blind girl that Missoula Animal Control found wandering as a stray near a busy four-lane street. The shelter asked if we could take her. Lady's age – we suspect she's at least 12 and probably older – and disability made her unadoptable.
Lady had a thick, shaggy coat and was terribly matted underneath, so our groomers had to shave all of her except for her head and tail.
As is our standard practice when we take in an animal, we had our vets do a thorough medical exam. They found Lady has advanced heart disease as well as Cushing's, and she is now receiving medications for both conditions. Twice a day, we count out her wide assortment of pills and give them to her with her meals.

She is a sweet, timid little soul, and at this point in her life, she is most content to snuggle up and sleep most of the day. Based on her heart condition, our vets don't think she has long to live – maybe just a few more months – but for now she is happy to be safe and loved.
Lady is mostly deaf as well, we learned, but if you're within about 10 feet of her and speak VERY LOUDLY, she can hear you … and then she starts wagging that fluffy tail of hers in a happy greeting!
