Levi the blind dog

Levi came to us from a rescue group in the Seattle area. He was found abandoned on a highway in eastern Washington, picked up by animal control, and scheduled to be euthanized.
Volunteers pulled Levi from the shelter at the last minute and transported him to the Seattle rescue. It turned out a lady who works for that group had earlier sent us blind Cedar a few years ago, so she contacted us when Levi showed up. We agreed to take him, and one of our own volunteers drove to Washington to get him.

When we took Levi to our vet for an eye exam, we found he had been beaten blind, his eyes filled with blood. Because of this history of abuse, he is a very sensitive soul, quick to roll over submissively and urinate. (Oops!) Even a raised voice can cause him to sink to the floor.
But Levi's come a long way since he first arrived, and today he is a joyful dog who likes nothing more than hanging out with people. It is always amazing to us how dogs who have been thoroughly mistreated by people somehow find a way to forgive. Levi is a great example of a dog who has no reason to trust people, but he does. .. and we're all better for it.
