Penny the blind dog
A
volunteer at the Hayward, California animal control shelter
contacted us about a blind dog they had picked up as a stray.
The dog was an older female with skin problems and bald patches
on her body.
She was probably 5 years old, in heat, and hadn't seen much
in the way of care. We agreed to take her, and the volunteer
arranged to fly Penny out to us.
At 90 lbs, this girl needed a crate that was too big for the
smaller regional jets that fly into Missoula. So Penny flew
from Oakland to Seattle and on to Spokane on a Boeing 737.
One of our own wonderful volunteers, Jerry B. from Missoula, drove to Spokane to pick up Penny at the airport and brought her out to the ranch.
Penny turned out to be a big, sweet girl who was simply starved for affection. She will literally press her body against you until she knocks you over. .. or unless you convince her to stop first! In Penny's case, it seems love is something of a contact sport.

A simple antibiotic cleared up her skin problem, and now she gets the love she craves. In fact, her favorite time is when volunteers and visitors come for a visit, because then she gets lots of extra loving!
